This book definitely put me through the ringer, angst-wise. I don't read too many books where it's the heroine panting after the hero and the hero acts like he doesn't care. That sums it up a bit too simplistically so let me elaborate. This is the second book in the "Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles", it's about a group of young women (all friends) who are thrust into arranged marriages. These girls are strategically matched to their spouses to gain more power and status in the Outfit. I enjoyed t [...]

4.25 Stars”Why had Dante Cavallaro chosen a widow instead of a young innocent bride?”This second installment in the series was so damn good! Valentina is fantastically strong, sexy and smart heroine. I just loved her and struggled with her as she marries the head of the family who’s still hung up on his dead wife.”What you’re looking for, I can’t give you. The part that was capable of it died with my wife, and it won’t come back.”I just want Dante to loss control and fall into Va [...]

This series is such a guilty pleasure - it's fast, entertaining reading. I love it. Bound by Duty is the story of Dante, the boss of the Chicago Outfit who lost his wife to cancer 4 years ago, and Valentina a young widow with a secret. I found their story a bit more emotional than the first in the series. Dante is considered cold and distant, and this marriage of convenience to him, he needs to provide an heir and doesn't want to appear weak. While for Valentina, she wonders if it will be an opp [...]

4 Second chance starsFirst I have to say these mafia men are just. After Valentinas first husband dies after 4 years of marriage her parents are keen to wed her off again ASAP, not wanting a spinster for a daughter (god forbid). We also learn (view spoiler)[Valentina is hiding the truth about her first marriage being a lie. She married her friend who was gay to cover for him as the outfit would kill him if they found out. (hide spoiler)]Dante needed a wife as he was becoming the boss of the Chica [...]

OKAY, THIS BOOK DID NOT SUCK!I know, right?I am in complete shock myself right now! Review, review, review how do I start thee?Well, in the spirit of full disclosure, I will admit that I was extremely afraid to read this book. Because the first one wasn't for me. Ahhhh who am I kidding here. I F*CKING HATED THE FIRST BOOK. I mean, I would have literally gone into the book and killed that hero.So yeah, I think it's safe to say, I was very very reluctant to read this book! So how did I go from hat [...]

What can i say about this book??????In the beggining i was so curious for the development of Valentina's and Dante's arranged marriageThen i became furious with Dante's cold and emotionless attitude toward ValentinaAnd that's made me feel sad about herAfter i was shaking my head in approval of her stubbornessAnd finally, thank God, i felt joy and pleasure. In this book we were having another one arranged marriage inside the circle of the mob but with different terms than the first book Valentina [...]

UPDATE: Bound by Duty is free for a limited period of time if you where curious about this novel this is the time to get it HERE Despite the fact that I loved the first book in this series,Bound by Honor, this one wasn't as great. I liked it and Cora Reilly's writing is really good but this book didn't do a lot for meWhat I did like was the fact that Valentina is a very strong woman, that can stand up for herself and isn't pleased with just being a trophy wife. She pushes Dante until she gets wh [...]

*A Nutella substitute 3.5 Hershey's jars*Valentina a widow at twenty three and forever bounded in the mafiaso family. Valentina never expected much of her life being born and raised into a family where power and command is everything, our heroine came to terms with her life but being a widow and keeping a secret that could possibly shake her entire family was never part of the deal."Then maybe you should look for another wife. I didn’t ask you to marry me.”Dante Cavallaro or The Boss of the [...]

2.5 starsA bit better than the first one but the writing still bugs me a bit. Even though Dante is very closed throughout this whole book, I still liked him more than I did Luca. And Valentina is a whole different story. She is strong, wants her own freedom, even if limited, and has actual friends outside the family. I really liked her and the fact that when it came to her husband, she took the matter into her own hands. Yes girl, yes!But what Cora does and which irritates me a lot is that she w [...]

It could have been an easy 5-star rating. Here's what I liked: standalone, no cheating, HEA. However, when it came to the hero a little improvement would've been nice. I'm not going to say he's a complete asshole but a little 'too cold' in the first half of the book. (view spoiler)[Then there's also the fact he never says, "I love you" to the heroine. Perhaps it just bothers me.(hide spoiler)]Once again, I'm left waiting for the third book which I hope comes out soon. Great read and a recommend [...]

“Fear, hatred and respect are the three most important feelings a Capo must instil in other people.” Dante“In your wife as well?” Valentina“Hatred and fear have no place in a marriage.” DanteAfter briefly meeting and learning a bit of Dante, the 35 year old Capo of the Chicago Outfit, a Mafia Clan who rival their New York counterparts, and Valentina, Aria’s 23 year old cousin in book one, we couldn’t wait to immediately delve into their story. After four years of being on his own [...]

First of all I want to thank my lucky star for bringing me to Cora Reilly`s books. There is a God and he is actually a she. And she is an avid reader just like the rest of us. You have to respect the higher powerAmen!!!Second I absolutely adored Bound by Honor and I said that Cora Reilly wrote it just for me. 4.5 Second Chances StarsBound by Duty is a standalone and is part of the Born in Blood Mafia Chronicles series. When I realized this was Valentina and Dante’s book I kind of scratched by head and was wondering who they were. I really did think Aria’s sister would be in the next book, however, I’m glad I got this story. Valentina is their cousin. Remember she was at Aria’s wedding? She was previously married but her husband died, but now she is remarrying, Dante.Dante was also married and [...]

Like Fire And IceFocusing on the arranged marriage of Valentina and Dante, this second book in the series has the bride turning the tables on the groom. It ends up that there were some pretty big secrets in Valentina's first marriage. Faced with her second marriage of conveniencehis convenience that isValentina is determined to see to it that her needs are met for a change.Still grieving the loss of his first wife and the only woman he's ever loved, Dante views his marriage as a necessary formal [...]

5 Stars!I really cannot believe it! You read the first book and you think that the second one cannot be that good! Well of course it can!!!! I was so happily surprised that I couldn't put down this book either! I also finished it in 24 hours!!!!!!! Fantastic story and beautifully written as well!!!! The plot was moving a bit faster but there was a couple of surprises and the evolution was done in a perfect balanced way!Valentina is amazing! She knows what she wants and she goes for it! What made me so dang on mad is that the book ended on the note it did, and not once did the asshole said I love you or show any indication that he did. Italians are possessive bunch, speaking from experience here, so him being possessive does not mean he gave a fudge just that he is wired that way! And how the hell could Valentine drop the I love you bomb, I didn't feel any love in this whole novel not ONE ounce!

  • Snow

so, oki doki, this is NOT your tipical mobster story. It's not dark. Like at all.Who doesn't like this fact stop reading the next lines. :)This is a complete love story. Yes, you read it correctly.Sure, there are mob men, made men, the whole cosa nostra, a heroine and a Capo.First things first. He's NOT your tipical Capo. He's f*cking blonde, for starters. And I don't even like the blonde ones. LOLSo, why mention it, at all simple, cause after I pictured him in my mind like this:the story took a w [...]

it's past 5 in the morning here, so review after i get some sleep!few hours of sleep later:Compared to Luca&Aria's story, this is more meh. Whereas that was more romanticized and catered to the female taste, this one was more realistic. Kinda like the flip side of the coin, almost. But I gobbled it up anyway! I don't know what it is about this author, her writing, or the story she tells, or the characters or whatever the fuck, but it's my crack. Really. This series has got the whole mafia go [...]

Γνώρισα τη Valentina και τον Dante διαβάζοντας το πρώτο βιβλίο της σειράςBorn in Blood Mafia Chronicles.

This book wasn't as satisfying as the first one Valentina basically wants a husband to make her feel desired and wanted on a physical way And even though I admire that she went after what she wanted it wasn't enough to keep my interest for the whole book. Dante on the other hand after his first wife's death is emotionally detached I can understand his cold mannered behavior as a Mafia boss but there is no excuse for the same behavior toward his wife At least I couldn't find one. He was fighting [...]

I liked Valentina in the previous book 'Bound by Honor' so I was initially pleased that while she was having to marry again so soon she was at least getting a 'good catch' although my enthusiasm did wane the more I actually got to know her intended Dante.Valentina is easy to like and even after four years with her previous husband Antonio she remains a virgin so along with her I was looking forward to her wedding night.Dante is conflicted, while he loved his previous wife and I really liked that [...]
