Anger. Loneliness. Negative emotions are uncomfortable by design. Like any good fire alarm, they alert us to a greater danger. But they won’t help us if we try to cover them up, hide them behind excuses, or assume they will always plague us.The only healthy way to manage negative emotions is to find their source and address the problem that set them off. As pastor Jeff Schreve says, “A specific and compelling message can be found in each of your negative, painful emotions. God Himself is trying to speak to you through those emotions—right now.”So what is God saying? How can we understand our emotions—even change them? Schreve shows how the truth of the Bible can make sense of our confusion. The power of the Holy Spirit can lead us to freedom, and Jesus Christ can give us true peace in the midst of any crisis. You don’t have to let your emotions run away with you, your family, or your future.

I read Runaway Emotions by Jeff Schreve, for honest review for BookSneeze. I received a paperback version of the book. The book was published by Thomas Nelson.I chose the book because I deal with runaway emotions. Worry, anger, sadness, loneliness, happiness. My emotions can go overboard at times.Emotions can guide our behavior. Schreve provided a great analogy towards the beginning of the book, using a smoke detector. Smoke detectors come in different shapes and colors. No one really pays a smo [...]

Why You Feel the Way You Do and What God Wants You to Do About ItOne thing that I loved about this book right away is that he considers emotions to be like symptoms, in the same way a doctor would look at symptoms. I have long thought that about feelings myself so this book confirmed that for me.Not only does the author talk about emotional symptoms, he provides the diagnosis and prescription for each one. Specific emotions covered are: embarrassment, loneliness, frustration, worry, anger, guilt [...]

I was provided an incredible book by the BookSneeze program and Thomas Nelson publishers: Runaway Emotions Why You Feel the Way You Do and What God Wants You to Do About It by Jeff Schreve. This book took me a long time to read - simply because I wanted to take the time to process all of the great truths! Each chapter highlights one emotion, what Shreve calls a "smoke alarm." Those emotions, that seem to take over, are warnings from God. Shreve follows that up with how to handle it God's way.Emb [...]

As someone who allowed my emotions to run my life for most of my 20's, I was thrilled to come across this book! I had come to realize that my life was upside down much of the time because I went with how I felt, instead of thinking things through and figuring what was causing the crazy emotions.Jeff's book tackles emotions that we often come across daily, and combats them with what God is trying to warn us about in the midst of them. It is amazing how on target he was with what I've dealt with o [...]

God has given us emotions for a purpose. We need to pay attention to them to find out what God is telling us. Schreve identifies several negative emotions and what they indicate about our spiritual lives. He also gives great suggestions on how to deal with those emotions. What makes this less than a "great" book is that some of these suggestions are very hard, like, forgive those who have wronged you, and, discipline your thinking. One might have to work years on one of the suggestions Schreve m [...]

This book was really helpful. The writing was excellent. It was easy to understand, and filled with examples to help you apply the concepts. My only point of contention is a lot of religion based books teach from the same books and stories of the Bible. Would be nice to see if other lessons could be used. Very good book.

He was talking to me!As I read each chapter (not in order but where I perceived my greatest needs first), I could relate to each one . It was as f he were talking directly to me. I was able to see where I was getting derailed, and more importantly how to get back on track. A must read for everyone.

Schreve writes with the charming voice of a mentor from your local church. And the ideas he presents, though simple, are both profound and of great consequence. This book helped me think realistically about my emotions and led me to some important self-examination. Recomended.
